Chisinau International Airport to be renamed: to bear name of great departed composer Eugen Doga

The Chisinau International Airport will be renamed, in the memory of the great departed composer Eugen Doga, as a sign of gratitude and respect for his remarkable contribution to the development and promotion of Moldova’s culture. The government has approved a decision to this end.

Thus, the Eugen Doga Chisinau International Airport becomes a symbol not only of transportation, but also of the artistic and spiritual heritage of the country. ‘’Moldova can generate extraordinary talents, universal talents,’’ emphasized Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

Master Eugen Doga was born on March 1, 1937, and passed away on June 3, 2025. Being a titan of musical opera, Eugen Doga represented Moldova with dignity for over half a century and carried with honor the country's fame across the world.

The renowned composer left behind a huge cultural heritage: more than 200 works for film and theater, dozens of symphonic pieces, romances and waltzes. Artistic creations to his melodies have been translated into hundreds of languages and his waltz from My Sweet and Tender Beast is considered a musical masterpiece of the 20th century. The great master's music was heard at the opening of the Olympic Games in 1980, 2014 and 2022 and brought Moldova to world stages.

It is noteworthy that it is a common practice for international airports to bear the names of notable personalities, for example: Frederic Chopin Airport in Warsaw, Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris or Leonardo da Vinci in Rome.
