Moldovan president urges people to visit Chisinau International Book Fair Bookfest
President Maia Sandu has attended the official opening of the Chisinau International Book Fair Bookfest 2025, now at its eighth edition. The head of state said that Bookfest had already become a tradition in Chisinau, a project that shows how powerful culture is when it brings people together. "A book lives only when it is read. It shows us the complexity and diversity of life, teaches us to be free, gives us hope that good and life will prevail. It helps us discover the beauties of the world we live in and provides us the joy of reading. And in tough times, it helps us fight for what matters - truth, morality and humanity," noted President Maia Sandu.
The head of state thanked the authors participating in this year's edition: "Through your work, the word remains alive and strong, at the service of truth."
At the same time, the Moldovan president addressed an urge to all people fond of reading: "Each one of us, when we open a book, strengthens and defends the truth. Therefore, I urge you to visit the stands, discover new titles and make time to read them."
Bookfest Chisinau is organized on September 3-7 by the National Library of Moldova, the State University of Moldova, the Union of Publishers of Moldova, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova and the Romanian Publishers Association. For the fourth year in a row, the event is held under the High Patronage of the President of Moldova and the President of Romania.
