Moldovan presidency makes specifications on mandate of head of state
Chisinau, 5 April /MOLDPRES/ - Given that more media representatives and opinion makers use the phrase “office duties of ad interim,” while referring to the mandate of Moldova’s president following 23 March, the presidential press service deems it necessary to make the following specifications:
“We inform the public opinion that Mr. Nicolae Timofti exercises his mandate till a newly elected president takes the oath, in accordance with the provisions of the Article 80, paragraph (2) of the Constitution, as well as the Constitutional Court’s rulings from 14 December 2000 and 16 March 2016.
On this period, President Nicolae Timofti will be in the exercise of his duties and not in the “office duties of ad interim,” a situation different from the one of continuing the mandate by the occupant of the position till the election of his/her successor in post.
In this period, the president’s mandate is plenipotentiary and is not limited in any way.”
