
Moldovan president meets UN High Commissioner for Refugees
Chisinau, March 4 / MOLDPRES /- President Maia Sandu had a meeting today with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, who is on a working visit to Chisinau. Officials discussed the current situation in Moldova and in the region, the presidential press service has reported.
Grandi expressed solidarity and gratitude for the joint efforts of the authorities in the process of managing the high flow of refugees from Ukraine. In this context, the head of state mentioned that for Moldova, the humanitarian crisis is being managed at the same time as the one caused by the energy crisis, high inflation and the Covid-19 pandemic. The head of state also mentioned the need for immediate assistance from the international community in managing the flow of refugees and strengthening the health system.
Filippo Grandi assured that the international organizations will intervene promptly and will provide additional assistance to the Republic of Moldova in order to reduce the pressure under which the state currently operates.
