Over 82,000 residents of Transnistrian region covered by Moldova’s medical insurance system

A total of 82,325 citizens of Moldova residing in the Transnistrian region were registered in the mandatory health insurance system between 1 January and 30 June 2026, according to updated data by the National Health Insurance Company. By comparison, at the end of the first half of 2025, 27,840 insured persons were reported. The data confirm the scale of the support provided to citizens from the region through the national medical system.

Moreover, on the concerned period, 58 hospital health service providers handled 4,051 treated cases amounting to 78.25 million lei.

Of the total number registered this year, 68,382 persons are insured by the government, including children and pensioners, 10,904 are employed at entities listed in the State Register of Legal Entities of Moldova, and 2,956 persons have insured themselves individually. The value of premiums paid by the latter exceeded 8.4 million lei.

At the same time, 52,975 citizens residing in the Transnistrian region are registered with family doctors at medical and sanitary institutions operating in the mandatory health insurance system. Their number has increased by 35 per cent compared to the first half of 2025, when 39,238 persons were registered. The number of insured persons registered with family doctors rose from 20,171 to 31,890, an increase of over 58 per cent.

A significant improvement is also seen in the area of reimbursed medicines and medical devices. In the first six months of 2026, 8,274 persons benefited from them, by approximately 70 per cent more than in the same period of the previous year. The amount paid from the mandatory health insurance funds exceeded 14.18 million lei, up by almost 79 per cent compared to the 7.94 million lei allocated in the first half of 2025. The largest share of resources was directed toward the treatment of circulatory system diseases and endocrine, nutritional and metabolic disorders, including diabetes mellitus.

The constitutional authorities will continue to expand access for citizens residing in the Transnistrian region to medical services, treatments and state-provided social protection mechanisms, ensuring the application of equal standards and strengthening their ties with the national health system.
