The Republic of Moldova is building Europe at home day by day through concrete results for its citizens, becoming more predictable, more connected to the European market and increasingly aligned with EU standards – in regulation, in institutions and in market access. This is the message delivered by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu at Romania Government Roundtable conference, organized today in Bucharest by The Economist.

In his online address, Munteanu emphasized that although the Republic of Moldova is facing major challenges generated by regional conflicts – from attacks on energy infrastructure and pollution of the Dniester River to attempts to interfere in our democracy and rising fuel costs – Moldova is moving forward.

He stressed that the Government is focused on implementing reforms, reducing bureaucracy, digitizing public services and creating a predictable environment for investors. Important investments are also being made in energy security, access to drinking water and quality medical services.

“We are advancing decisively on our path to EU accession. This objective is no longer about ‘if’, but about how quickly we achieve it. Accelerating this process is our firm commitment and an important factor of stability for the entire region,” said Munteanu.

At the same time, the official highlighted the important role of the strategic partnership with Romania and other states in the region, which support the Republic of Moldova’s rapprochement with the EU. “Energy interconnections, infrastructure projects and the support offered in times of crisis demonstrate what European solidarity means in practice,” noted Munteanu.

Romania Government Roundtable conference is at its first edition and brings together political and institutional leaders and representatives of the business community from Romania, Europe and the United States. The discussion agenda focuses on priorities related to the stability, security and economic development of South-Eastern Europe.
