Moldovan energy minister, officials from Ireland, Norway, Canada, Lithuania discuss opportunities of cooperation in energy field

Opportunities for cooperation in the energy sector and the identification of concrete directions for modernizing the sector have been discussed by Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu with officials from Ireland, Norway, Canada and Lithuania, on the sidelines of the informal meeting of the EU Energy and Transport ministers (TTE), held in Dublin.

The minister had meetings with his Irish counterpart, Darragh O’Brien, the State Secretary of Norway’s Energy Ministry, Marte Haabeth Grindaker, and Lithuania’s Energy Minister, Lukas Savickas. The discussions focused on energy cooperation, energy efficiency, energy affordability, the modernization of district heating systems, the development of decentralized energy solutions and cybersecurity.

“For Moldova, energy efficiency means not only lower consumption, but also lower invoices for citizens. Therefore, we need expertise, technologies and investments that can turn energy efficiency into a tangible outcome for people and the economy,” said Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu.

The energy minister referred to the lessons learned by Moldova from the energy crises of recent years. He emphasized that they had proved the need for a resilient energy system in which consumers are less exposed to external shocks, while energy prices are prompted by market conditions and the actual costs of supply.

“The crises of recent years have shown us that energy security and energy affordability must be built together. For us, it is important that the transformation of the energy sector translates into more predictable costs for consumers. That is why, the dialogue with European partners and companies with experience in these areas is very important,” Dorin Junghietu said.

In the context, the minister highlighted the importance of cooperation with European Union member states and European companies with experience in developing and operating modern energy services.

Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu is participating in the informal meeting of the Energy ministers within the EU Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (TTE). The event is taking place in Dublin, Ireland, on September 28-29, 2026.
