Moldovan PM has meeting with Ambassador of Turkey

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has met new Ambassador of Turkey to Moldova Nazmiye Başaran. The officials discussed deepening the Moldovan-Turkish relations and expanding cooperation, with a focus on new projects and investments.

The PM emphasized Moldova’s interest in a more active economic and investment presence of Turkey in the country. In this regard, opportunities for Turkish companies were discussed, with particular interest in new investments in the renewable energy sector.

To boost economic relations and bilateral dialogue, the officials discussed organizing a new meeting of the Moldovan-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation. Economic relations between the two countries are growing. In the first six months of 2026, the trade reached 638.7 million dollars, almost 13 per cent more than during the same period last year. Moldovan exports to Turkey increased by 36 per cent, reaching 260.6 million dollars, while in 2025, the total volume of bilateral trade exceeded 1.1 billion dollars.

The officials also discussed cooperation in education, including the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Moldovan-Turkish College in Comrat, as well as initiatives to support the study of the Gagauz and Romanian languages in the autonomous region.

Referring to the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue focused on people’s concrete problems and needs—economic development, jobs and infrastructure. In this regard, the PM appreciated Turkey’s contribution to development projects in the autonomous region and to preserving Gagauz identity and language.
