Refugees from Ukraine to benefit from temporary protection in Moldova
Chisinau, 18 January /MOLDPRES/ - The providing of temporary protection to people displaced from Ukraine will be introduced in Moldova for a one-year period. The cabinet approved a draft decision to this end at a meeting today.
According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the people asking for temporary protection will be able to get an identity act issued for free for a one-year term. The data on the beneficiaries of temporary protection will be registered in the automated information system of the authority competent for foreigners and will be able to be accessed through the MConnect interoperability platform. Thus, the draft will contribute to a more efficient management of the migration flows, legalization and monitoring of refugees who stay in Moldova.
At the same time, the draft contains provisions on the conditions for the providing of temporary protection, the rights and obligations of beneficiaries, procedures as to the getting of the identity document and the powers of the implementing institutions as regards the access to the fundamental rights ensured in the normative framework.
The draft will also contribute to the ensuring and guaranteeing of the right of the people displaced from Ukraine not to return to the origin country, clear-cut establishment of the right to services and measures of accommodation, social, medical and education assistance, ensuring the protection against abuses, exploitation and discrimination.
The need to work out the draft was dictated by the management of the large flow of people displaced, triggered by the war from the neighbour country, as well as for the aligning with the European Union’s legislation.
