Moldova through eyes of Independence generation: painting, sculpture exhibition at parliament
Chisinau, November 6, 2026 – Four visual artists born in the year when Moldova proclaimed its independence are presenting their works at an exhibition hosted by the parliament. Titled, The Independence Generation, the exhibition brings together more than 20 paintings and sculptures, drawing the public’s attention to the diversity of the artistic visions of a generation that grew up alongside the independent state. The event is part of a string of activities dedicated to marking 35 years since the proclamation of Moldova’s independence.
The works on display were created using various techniques, from oil painting on canvas and watercolor to sculpture. They reflect the distinct artistic styles and interests of the four authors, giving the public the opportunity to discover the diversity of contemporary visual artistic expression.
The four artists are established in the field of visual arts and have completed higher education in their respective specialties, developing their own creative directions and techniques. Eugen Gorean, who pursues his artistic activity in Moldova and France, has devoted his creative work to watercolor. He is the recipient of national and international awards and teaches this technique in France. Radu Negru, whose studio is in Chisinau, works at the Maria Biesu National Opera and Ballet Theatre, where he develops his oil painting on canvas. Leo Dolghier Oleg, a painter whose studio is in Iasi, works in monumental and church painting while also exploring new artistic languages. Pavel Obreja, a sculptor whose studio is in Moldova, devotes his activity to sculpture and has received awards in his field from Moldova and Romania.
Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, MP Marcela Adam said: “Here we have four visual artists who were born at the same time as the independent state of the Republic of Moldova and grew up together with our country. Today, we have the opportunity to discover Moldova through their eyes and their creations. In their works, Independence takes on a face, color and new perspectives, becoming an expression of freedom and democracy. I am pleased that, through their talent and creations, these artists have become true ambassadors of Moldova’s culture abroad.”
For her part, Marcela Nistor, State Secretary of the Culture Ministry, emphasized the importance of creating new opportunities for artists to gain recognition and receive support: “Moldova has become part of the Creative Europe programme, which offers our artists more opportunities to access funding programmes, promote their creations and establish themselves in the European cultural space. At the same time, we are considering an initiative that we intend to discuss with the parliament as well, through which we aim for Moldova not only to take pride in its artists, but also to provide them with concrete support, including through financial assistance mechanisms.”
The Independence Generation exhibition can be visited in the ground-floor lobby of the institution till November 27.
