Speaker, EBRD experts approached initiatives to strengthen Moldova's resilience
Chisinau, Nov. 10 /MOLDPRES/- The Republic of Moldova will continue to benefit from financial support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The EBRD's priorities for Moldova were considered by Speaker Igor Grosu and a delegation of the financial institution's experts, led by Stephen Ostrowski, Senior Counsellor for Strategy & Policy Coordination, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
The officials approached strengthening the resilience of the Republic of Moldova and actions to reduce the energy vulnerability of the population. The discussions also focused on the initiatives that promote energy security, diversification of energy sources and increasing the energy efficiency of the country. They exchanged views on the legislative amendments in the energy, approved by the Parliament and the importance of attracting foreign investors in the renewable energy in Moldova. They also broached supporting the private sector and improving the business climate.
"I noticed that the request of the authorities to save electricity and thermal energy was heard by both economic agents and household consumers, who last month reduced consumption by 30%. This makes us understand that the world resonates with our goal of diversifying energy sources", Grosu said. He noted that the parliament also reduced electricity consumption by 30.3% last month.
The speaker thanked the European experts for the financial support that the Republic of Moldova receives from the EBRD, within the projects carried out in the country, especially to support the infrastructure. Since the beginning of the activity in Moldova, the EBRD has invested almost 18 billion euros and carried out 158 projects.
