EU grants the Republic of Moldova new €120 million assistance package to strengthen defence and resilience

The Republic of Moldova will benefit from a new assistance package worth 120 million euros through the European Peace Facility (EPF), aimed at strengthening the country’s defence capabilities and resilience. The announcement was made during a meeting between acting Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas.

The two officials welcomed two important developments for the Republic of Moldova this week – the launch of accession negotiations for Cluster 6 External Relations and the approval of the new European support package under the EPF.

During the discussions, they addressed the priorities of the European integration process, cooperation in the areas of foreign policy, security and defence, as well as the contribution of the Republic of Moldova to European security through alignment with the European Union’s foreign and security policy, participation in Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) missions, and combating hybrid threats.

“The Republic of Moldova appreciates the European Union’s constant support, which helps us advance on the path to accession, strengthen state institutions, and contribute, as a future EU Member State, to the security and stability of Europe,” said Mihai Popșoi.

For her part, Kaja Kallas reaffirmed the European Union’s strong support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova and for deepening cooperation in the field of security and defence.
