Nominated candidate for the position of prime minister Vasile Tofan held first consultations today with representatives of the business community, in the context of drafting the future government program.
Vasile Tofan emphasized that only a growing economy can finance better schools, hospitals, roads and public services.
“Today’s first consultations were with representatives of the business community. The economy is not restarted from government offices. It is built in factories, in greenhouses and orchards, in IT companies, in small and large enterprises that invest, export and create jobs. Only a growing economy can finance better schools, hospitals, roads and public services,” said Tofan.
The designated prime minister noted that the role of the Government is to unblock processes, provide clear and predictable rules, and create conditions in which entrepreneurs can grow.
“I know from my own experience how important it is for the state not to hinder but to encourage initiative and productivity – to be a partner, not an administrative cudgel. I thank the entrepreneurs for the sincere discussion, for their concrete ideas and, above all, for their optimism and commitment to Moldova,” concluded Vasile Tofan.
President Maia Sandu nominated Vasile Tofan on Saturday, July 11, as the candidate for the position of Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova. According to the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, the designated candidate must request, within 15 days, a vote of confidence from Parliament for the Government’s program of activity and for its composition.
As part of the process of drafting the government program and forming the future Cabinet, Vasile Tofan has, over the past two days, held discussions with all 16 acting ministers. Each minister was asked to present an analysis of the three to five most important priorities for the next 12 months, the main problems and risks in their area of responsibility, obligations related to European integration, the resources needed, as well as possibilities for reducing administrative costs.
After discussions with the ministers, Vasile Tofan announced that decisions will follow regarding the governmental team and the continuation of consultations with political parties and representatives of several sectors, in order to finalize the government program.
