Decisive week for new Government: Designated Prime Minister Vasile Tofan could announce Cabinet of Ministers on Friday

The composition of the new Cabinet of Ministers, led by designated Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, will most likely be announced on Friday, July 17. The statement was made today by acting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Vladimir Bolea, during a press conference dedicated to the launch of the Buyer’s Guide.

Asked whether he would keep his position in the future Cabinet, Vladimir Bolea admitted that he had already held discussions with designated Prime Minister Vasile Tofan. However, he avoided giving clear details, noting that he will only learn the final decision on Friday, when the full list of the new Government will be officially presented.

“I had a meeting with Mr. Tofan, the candidate for the position of prime minister. I still have to make a decision. We will meet again on Friday to learn Mr. Tofan’s final decision,” Vladimir Bolea said.

In the meantime, designated Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has begun consultations for drafting the government program and forming the future Cabinet of Ministers. He has held meetings with several members of the current Government to evaluate sectoral objectives, priorities, and existing problems in the areas under their management.

Among the officials he met with are acting Deputy Prime Ministers Valeriu Chiveri, Eugeniu Osmochescu, Cristina Gherasimov, Mihai Popșoi, as well as ministers Dan Perciun, Andrian Gavriliță, Ludmila Catlabuga, Dorin Junghietu, Cristian Jardan, Vladislav Cojuhari, Vladimir Bolea, Natalia Plugaru, Anatolie Nosatîi, Gheorghe Hajder, and Emil Ceban.

Talks with Government members will continue, and afterwards the designated candidate for prime minister is to hold consultations with representatives of the business community, professional associations, civil society, and parliamentary factions.

Vasile Tofan was nominated as candidate for the position of prime minister by President Maia Sandu on July 11. According to the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, the designated candidate must request, within 15 days, a vote of confidence from Parliament for the Government’s program of activities and its composition.
