The candidate nominated by PAS for the position of prime minister, Vasile Tofan, announced that he has concluded consultations with the 16 interim ministers as part of the process of drafting the government program and forming the future Cabinet.
According to Tofan, each minister was asked to present an analysis of the three to five most important priorities for the next 12 months, the main problems and risks in the area they manage, the obligations related to European integration, the necessary resources, as well as options for reducing administrative costs.
“I now have a much clearer picture of the situation in each field: where there are solid teams and projects, where we need to accelerate, where there are bottlenecks and where adjustments are needed,” Vasile Tofan said.
He specified that the next steps involve taking decisions regarding the government team and continuing consultations with political parties and representatives of various sectors in order to finalize the government program.
“I want a Government focused on a few clear priorities, disciplined in the use of public money and evaluated based on results. I am confident that, together, we can meet people’s expectations,” said the PAS-nominated candidate for the position of prime minister.
Vasile Tofan emphasized that the information obtained from discussions with interim ministers gives him a clear picture of the areas where reforms need to be accelerated and administrative bottlenecks removed.
Among the officials he met with are acting deputy prime ministers Valeriu Chiveri, Eugeniu Osmochescu, Cristina Gherasimov, Mihai Popșoi, as well as ministers Dan Perciun, Andrian Gavriliță, Ludmila Catlabuga, Dorin Junghietu, Cristian Jardan, Vladislav Cojuhari, Vladimir Bolea, Natalia Plugaru, Anatolie Nosatîi, Gheorghe Hajder and Emil Ceban.
After discussions with the ministers, the designated candidate for the position of prime minister will hold consultations with associations from various sectors, with civil society and with parliamentary factions. Following these discussions and consultations, the government program with which Vasile Tofan will go to Parliament to request a vote of confidence will be finalized.
“This week we are preparing the government program with which I will go to Parliament to ask for the vote of confidence. I will hold consultations with associations from different sectors, with civil society and with parliamentary factions. Today and tomorrow I am discussing with each minister about the most important objectives for the next 12 months, the existing bottlenecks in the field, as well as the priorities related to European integration that must be fulfilled at maximum speed. What we change, what we accelerate, what is not working and needs to be done differently – any government decision must start, first and foremost, from its impact on people’s lives,” Vasile Tofan announced on Monday, 13 July.
President Maia Sandu nominated Vasile Tofan on Saturday, 11 July, as candidate for the position of prime minister of the Republic of Moldova. According to the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, the designated candidate must, within 15 days, request Parliament’s vote of confidence for the Government’s program of activity and its composition.
