Speaker: Opening of negotiations for External Relations Cluster confirms that reforms are delivering results
The opening of European Union accession negotiations for Cluster 6 External Relations confirms that the reforms implemented in the Republic of Moldova are producing results and bringing the country closer to EU membership, said Speaker Igor Grosu this evening, following the official launch of negotiations on Cluster 6 External Relations during the third Intergovernmental Conference Republic of Moldova – European Union, held in Brussels.
According to the Speaker, the opening of the second negotiation cluster represents “another step forward on the European path of the Republic of Moldova” and a confirmation that the reforms promoted by the authorities are recognized by European partners.
“It is a new confirmation that the reforms we are carrying out at home are delivering results, and that the Republic of Moldova is advancing towards the European Union,” said Grosu.
He stressed that the Republic of Moldova is currently a partner that contributes to strengthening Europe’s security and resilience and demonstrates that it can face challenges together with the member states of the European Union.
“Today Moldova is a partner that contributes to Europe’s security and resilience and that demonstrates we can face challenges together with the member states of the European Union. Step by step, through work and reforms, we are bringing the Republic of Moldova ever closer to the place it deserves – in the European family,” said Grosu.
Today in Brussels, the third Intergovernmental Conference Republic of Moldova – European Union took place, during which negotiations for Cluster 6 External Relations were launched. This is the second group of chapters opened in the accession process, after Cluster 1 Fundamental Values, launched on 15 June 2026. Cluster 6 includes the chapters on external relations and foreign, security and defence policy and marks a new stage in the process of aligning the Republic of Moldova with the EU acquis.
