Deputy PM presents progress of Moldova in EU accession process in Brussels
Acting Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi in Brussels has presented the progress made by Moldova in the process of accession to the European Union, emphasizing the importance of continuing reforms and involving the whole society in the country’s European path.
The official took part in the high-level debate on the enlargement of the European Union, organized by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). Attending the discussion were representatives of civil society, trade unions and employers’ organizations from EU member and candidate states. The event was opened by EESC President Séamus Boland and European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.
During the panel, Building a safer, more resilient and more secure Europe, Mihai Popsoi referred to the progress achieved by Moldova on the path of European integration and about the role of civil society in promoting reforms and strengthening democratic resilience.
The minister noted that the opening of negotiations on Cluster 1, Fundamental Values, and Cluster 6, External Relations, represents a confirmation of the results obtained by Moldova in the process of joining the European Union.
“We will boost the reform agenda, in order to bring Moldova closer to the European family. All these efforts are made, first and foremost, to improve the quality of life of citizens and to ensure that they benefit from better services and the same standards enjoyed by European citizens,” said Mihai Popsoi.
The Moldovan diplomacy head reiterated that the accession to the European Union was the main priority of Moldova and stressed the need for the involvement of all components of society in achieving this goal.
At the same time, Mihai Popsoi presented the experience of Moldova in countering external interference and disinformation campaigns, highlighting the contribution of the independent press and civil society to protecting the democratic space.
During the event, the official welcomed the role of the European Economic and Social Committee in promoting dialogue with civil society organizations from candidate countries and in strengthening a safer and more resilient Europe.
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is a consultative body of the European Union that represents the voice of organized civil society at the European level. The institution brings together representatives of employers’ organizations, trade unions and other interest groups from EU member states.
