Albania and Moldova united by European values

President of the Republic of Albania Bajram Begaj, on an official visit to Chișinău, reaffirmed today Albania’s strong support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova and for its accession to the European Union. The visit marks the first presidential-level meeting between the two countries in more than 20 years.

“Our relations are based on mutual trust and respect. Albania firmly supports the European path of the Republic of Moldova and its accession to the European Union,” Begaj stated.

The Albanian head of state praised Chișinău’s commitment to democratic values, demonstrated through the recent elections and the constitutional referendum.

He noted that during his meeting with President Maia Sandu, they discussed topics such as regional security, economic cooperation, tourism, education, digitalization, and the modernization of public administration.

Begaj underlined that European unity and cooperation are essential in the context of the geopolitical challenges in the region, including Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The Albanian president also encouraged the deepening of diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations and invited Maia Sandu to visit Albania to share his country’s experience in strategic areas related to European integration.

Bajram Begaj is on an official visit to the Republic of Moldova at the invitation of President Maia Sandu. Albania, like the Republic of Moldova, is a candidate country for accession to the European Union. The Albanian president’s visit to Chișinău aims to strengthen cooperation and the exchange of experience in the European integration process of both states.

On the occasion of the official visit, a concert was held yesterday evening in Chișinău, featuring soprano Ulpiana Aliaj and pianist Jusuf Beshiri. The two Albanian artists delighted the audience with a program that reflected both Albanian culture and the musical heritage of the entire continent.

Begaj will be in Chișinău from January 18 to 20 of this year.
