The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova hosted the national launch session of the ninth edition of the program „Sub cușma lui Guguță”, an event organized on International Day of Democracy. The event was attended by young people from different regions of the country, representatives of educational institutions, student councils, universities and student self-governance structures, as well as representatives of public authorities and civil society organizations.

It is implemented by IQ Games Association of Intellectual Games of Moldova and includes three components: the National Intellectual Games Championship for middle and high school students, the Student Championship and the Republican Inclusive Intellectual Games Championship.

This year’s edition encourages young people to participate in organizing and promoting the activities. Thus, student councils will contribute to organizing the school-level stages and promoting the program locally, while representatives of student self-governance will participate in conducting the university component.

Through its activities, the program contributes to the development of critical and strategic thinking, communication and teamwork skills, promotes inclusion and encourages the active participation of young people in their communities.

From September to December, qualifying, district and regional stages, as well as training and mentoring activities, will be organized in educational institutions and universities across the country. The program will conclude with national finals for all three components.

Holding the event in the Parliament’s plenary session hall gave young people the opportunity to learn more about the work of the legislature and democratic processes. During the event, MPs Angela Cutasevici, Ludmila Adamciuc and Tatiana Rotari spoke about the importance of non-formal education in youth development, the formation of critical thinking and the promotion of inclusion, as well as the need for young people to participate in the life of society.

Participants also learned more about the Law for YOU(th) project, initiated and organized by Parliament. The activity familiarizes young people with how Parliament operates and with the legislative process, giving them the opportunity to go through, in an interactive format, the main stages of drafting a bill and to participate in a simulation of a plenary session.

Throughout September, Parliament is organizing a series of activities dedicated to the International Day of Democracy, aimed at promoting democratic values and encouraging citizens, especially young people, to participate in public life and decision-making processes.
