Designated Prime Minister Vasile Tofan today began an extensive round of discussions with current members of the Cabinet of Ministers to assess sectoral objectives and existing bottlenecks. These meetings launch the process of drafting the new government program, which will later be consulted with civil society and parliamentary factions before being presented to the Legislature.

The first Cabinet members invited to the talks were acting Deputy Prime Ministers Valeriu Chiveri, Eugeniu Osmochescu, Cristina Gherasimov, Mihai Popșoi, and Ministers Dan Perciun and Andrian Gavriliță.

Discussions with other members of the Government will continue tomorrow as well. Subsequently, the designated candidate for the position of prime minister will hold consultations with associations from various fields, civil society and parliamentary factions.

As a result of the discussions and consultations, the government program with which Vasile Tofan will go to Parliament to request a vote of confidence is to be finalized.

“This week we are preparing the government program with which I will go to Parliament to request the vote of confidence; I will hold consultations with associations from various fields, civil society and parliamentary factions. Today and tomorrow I am talking to each minister about the most important objectives for the next 12 months, the existing bottlenecks in the field, as well as the priorities related to European integration that must be fulfilled at maximum speed. What we change, what we accelerate, what does not work and needs to be done differently – any government decision must start, first and foremost, from the impact on people’s lives,” announced Vasile Tofan.

President Maia Sandu appointed Vasile Tofan on July 11 as the candidate for the position of Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova. According to the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, the designated candidate must, within 15 days, request the Parliament’s vote of confidence for the Government’s program of activity and for its composition.
