Latvian parliament speaker to pay visit to Moldova
Chisinau, 14 March /MOLDPRES/ - Latvia’s Parliament Speaker Edvards Smiltens will pay a working visit to Chisinau next week. The visit’s agenda was established at a today’s meeting of Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu with Ambassador of Latvia to Moldova Uldis Mikuts.
According to Igor Grosu, following the visit, ’’we are set to boost the inter-parliamentary cooperation relations with Latvia and, at the same time, we are interested in taking over the good legislative practices in such fields as good governance, regional development, fighting corruption or the information security.’’ ‘’We already have cooperation in these fields, but we would like to extend it, for the benefit of the citizens,’’ the Moldovan parliament speaker said.
„For Moldova, the 2023 year is important both in terms of the reforms’ agenda and in our European integration and our Latvian friends actively backed us during years on this road, both at the bilateral level and in discussions at the European level, for which we thank them,’’ Igor Grosu added.
The diplomatic relations between Moldova and Latvia were established on 1 September 1992. More than ten bilateral meetings took place between parliament speakers starting from December 2003, when the Latvia-Moldova parliamentary friendship group paid a visit to Chisinau.
