Moldova to have new ambassador to Portugal

The Republic of Moldova will have a new ambassador to Portugal. The position will be held by Sergiu Gurduza. The decision was approved today by the Government.

Before approving the proposal for appointment to the position of Ambassador, the Government accepted the release of Sergiu Gurduza from the post of Consul General of our country in the city of Istanbul, Turkey.

Sergiu Gurduza is a diplomat and civil servant with more than 16 years of experience in the fields of justice, good governance, and foreign relations. Throughout his career, he has held public office and strategic management positions, including that of Deputy Minister of Justice, Chief State Adviser to the Prime Minister, member of the Central Electoral Commission, and Adviser to the Speaker of Parliament.

At the same time, the Cabinet approved the appointment of Vladimir Sacagiu as Consul General of the Republic of Moldova in the city of Istanbul, Republic of Turkey.

Vladimir Sacagiu is a career diplomat with more than 20 years of experience within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He currently serves as Deputy Head of the General Directorate for Multilateral Affairs and Head of the OSCE and International Security Directorate within the MFA. Over the course of his career, he has worked in the diplomatic missions and consular offices of the Republic of Moldova in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Ireland, and the Italian Republic. He has also held several managerial and executive positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He holds the diplomatic rank of Minister Plenipotentiary.

Likewise, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to recall Mihail Căpățînă from the position of Consul General of our country in the city of Frankfurt, Germany.

Another decision included on the agenda of today’s Government meeting concerned the appointment of Mihai Mîțu, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Romania, concurrently as Ambassador of our country to Serbia and Montenegro.
