Moldovan Communists' leader announces separation from Patriotic Bloc, creation of own parliamentary faction
Moldova’s Party of Communists (PCRM), which has entered Parliament as part of the Patriotic Bloc, will form its own parliamentary faction. The PCRM leader, Vladimir Voronin, has made statements to this effect for RIA Novosti.
Voronin specified that the four political formations that had constituted the electoral bloc would continue to collaborate, including based on a ‘’common concept,’’ due to be developed.
‘’The Party of Communists is for the continuation of collaboration among the bloc's parties, but this will not be within the bloc. A special concept of cooperation between the four parties will be developed, but not within the bloc. We will create the PCRM faction, which will manage parliamentary activity and relations with voters,’’ emphasized Vladimir Voronin.
The Patriotic Bloc consists of PCRM, Party of Socialists (PSRM), Heart of Moldova, and Future of Moldova. Following Vladimir Voronin's statements, PSRM representatives clarified that ‘’the decision on the setting up of the parliamentary factions will be made and announced at the first meeting of the elected parliament, if the elections are validated by the Constitutional Court.’’
Also, the Future of Moldova Party informed that it firmly advocated for maintaining the unity of the bloc and a common faction.
‘’The Future of Moldova Party maintains its unchanged position: we consider it premature to formulate comments or conclusions until a direct meeting of all bloc leaders takes place. Only in a sincere, face-to-face discussion we can reach a common understanding and assumed decisions,’’ reads a press release from the party.
Referring to the subject, a Watchdog community expert, Andrei Curararu noted that the PCRM would not have entered parliament without the Patriotic Bloc.
‘’Voronin demands a separate faction. Officially, for autonomy. In reality, the move seems coordinated with Shor's group, which after losing the elections seeks distance from Dodon. Voronin's statement was first published in the Russian press, then synchronously picked up by networks close to Shor. The synchronization shows at least a maneuver accepted in Moscow, if not one prepared there. The Communists would not have entered parliament without the Patriotic Bloc. They no longer have organizations, resources or people,’’ said Andrei Curararu.
According to the results of the parliamentary elections from September 28, 2025, the Patriotic Bloc is expected to have 26 MP mandates in the new parliament.
