Moldovan Foreign Minister on visit to Brussels for talks with EU leaders

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi is paying a working visit on 2–4 February to the institutions of the European Union based in Brussels, the Kingdom of Belgium.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Prime Minister will hold talks with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, the European Commissioner for Defence and Space, Andrius Kubilius, the head of cabinet of the President of the European Council, Pedro Lourtie, the Secretaries-General of the Council of the European Union and of the European External Action Service, Thérèse Blanchet and Belén Martínez Carbonell, as well as with the Director-General for Defence Industry and Space of the European Commission, Timo Pesonen.

The visit to Brussels also includes an intensive programme of meetings at the level of the European Parliament, including with two Vice-Presidents of the European legislative body, Victor Negrescu and Nicolae Ștefănuță, with the Chairs of the Committees on Foreign Affairs, Security and Defence, and the European Democracy Shield, David McAllister, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann and Nathalie Loiseau, as well as with the Co-Chairs of the EU–Republic of Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, Siegfried Mureșan, and of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, Sergey Lagodinsky.

The Moldovan official will take part in a public event organised by the European Policy Centre, dedicated to the security, resilience and European path of the Republic of Moldova, and will hold a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association, Camille Grand. At the same time, Popșoi will give interviews to the Euronews television channel and the Euractiv media platform.

The purpose of the visit is to deepen dialogue with the institutions of the European Union in the context of Moldova’s accession process, with a focus on cooperation in the fields of foreign policy, security and defence, as well as on the support provided by the EU, including through the Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova.
