National airspace overflown by Shahed drone
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) condemns the unauthorized overflight of the airspace of the Republic of Moldova by an unmanned aerial vehicle of the Shahed type. The incident occurred yesterday evening and was confirmed by the Ukrainian authorities as well.
According to the MFA, “this incident is unacceptable and is a serious violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova.”
“The Ministry underlines that such actions represent a risk to the security of citizens and regional stability and reiterates the need for strict observance of international law,” the MFA said.
The Air Operations Service of the National Army detected, yesterday evening, the unauthorized overflight of the airspace of the Republic of Moldova by an unmanned aerial vehicle of the Shahed type.
The drone crossed the state border from the direction of the locality of Comarivka, Odesa region (Ukraine), entering the territory of the Republic of Moldova in the area of the locality of Șipca. The aircraft was monitored while flying over several localities, including Dubăsari and Orhei, moving northwards at an altitude of approximately 1,700 meters and an estimated speed of 180 km/h.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the airspace of the Republic of Moldova has been overflown without authorization more than 40 times. The authorities in Chișinău have submitted protest notes to the designated ambassador of the Russian Federation, stressing that although the drones do not directly target the Republic of Moldova, their trajectories – associated with attacks on Ukraine – pose an increased risk to national security.
