Moldovan government proposes ending state of emergency, introducing state of alert in energy sector; PM says government achieves necessary goals, manages to stabilize system

The government today approved the decision proposing the termination of the state of emergency in the energy sector, starting from April 25, exactly one month after it was introduced. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu said that the interventions carried out by the authorities on this period had produced good results, the necessary goals were achieved, the efficient working of the system was ensured, and immediate risks were eliminated. At the same time, the cabinet proposes the introduction of a state of alert, in order to continue monitoring the situation and to act promptly in the context of any potential risks.

“We are going to analyze a more complicated period and take important decisions regarding the stability of our energy system. We will submit for approval the decision by which we ask the parliament to end the state of emergency in the energy sector as of April 25. We propose that the state of emergency be lifted exactly one month after it was announced, because the interventions during this period have produced good results, we have achieved the necessary objectives, we have managed to stabilize the system and eliminate immediate risks. During the Easter holidays, we had electricity, we ensured comfort and the system is operating in normal parameters,” said Alexandru Munteanu at the beginning of the today’s government meeting.

At the same time, the prime minister emphasized that the responsible institutions must continue to show prudence, as the global and regional context remains complicated. Under these conditions, the government has proposed the introduction of a state of alert in the energy sector for a period of 60 days.

“We propose that the level of prudence be lowered from a state of emergency to a state of alert, to be reintroduced for a period of 60 days. It is a preventive measure that will allow us to react quickly and only when necessary,” said Alexandru Munteanu.

The PM added that the exact date and format for presenting to parliament the Report on the actions undertaken during the state of emergency are to be established.

The parliament of Moldova established a nationwide state of emergency for a period of 60 days starting from March 25, 2026, at the government’s proposal, after the Isaccea–Vulcanesti overhead power line had been disconnected on March 23 evening, following attacks on the energy infrastructure in southern Ukraine.
