Moldovan Foreign Affairs Ministry rejects allegations of supposed threats against Russian citizens on left bank of Dniester: “Rights of all persons fully respected and guaranteed”

Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) rejects the statements made by  Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Sergei Shoigu on alleged threats against citizens of the Russian Federation in the Transnistrian region. The institution describes the accusations as “unfounded.”

The Moldovan authorities emphasized that the rights of all Moldova’s citizens were observed and guaranteed.

“MAE reiterates that the security situation throughout the entire territory of the country is stable, and the fundamental rights and freedoms of all persons, regardless of citizenship or region, are fully respected and guaranteed,” the institution said.

In the context, the MAE reiterated that Moldova “stays firmly committed to the peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian issue, with full respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

In an interview given with the Russian press on April 21, Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Sergei Shoigu that “the security of Russian citizens in the Transnistrian region would be threatened and Moscow will take all measures to protect them.” He also claimed that “the pro-European authorities of Moldova intensified pressure on the region.”
