Moldovan PM says goal of government, European Commission to open negotiations on all six clusters by late 2025

The goal of the Moldovan government’s goal and the European Commission is to open negotiations on all six clusters by the end of this year and to complete the process by 2028 with the signing of the EU accession agreement. Prime Minister Dorin Recean has made statements to this effect at the 1 to 1 television show broadcast on ONE TV. The PM said that Moldova’s EU accession would be decided by citizens’ vote at the parliamentary elections due on September 28.

"Our goal and the one of the Commission, for which we have prepared, is to open negotiations on all clusters by the end of this year and to conclude negotiations by 2028, so that we have the accession agreement.

‘’It is not just about the first cluster, but all six chapters. We must mobilize as a society, go and vote, because otherwise, as I said, do you believe that the European Union will provide the same openness, will offer the same resources, will make the same financial resources available to Moldova to develop, will have the same motivation to find solutions to the complicated problems existing today, both in the negotiation process and in the process of ensuring peace, when pro-Russian parties or parties that represent or disguise Russian interests will be in power?" said Recean.

The prime minister emphasized that the country's European direction was irreversible and depended on the mobilization of society.

"It's simple: we need to mobilize, unite, as Europe sees us. It's about building our European life here, at home, with the help of our friends who respect us, help us, and want us as equals," said the PM.

He recalled that, although initially it seemed impossible, Moldova and Ukraine completed the screening process in just two years, while normally it takes one decade.

"With the financial support and expertise of the European Union, this is realistic. Mobilized and well-organized, we succeed," Recean added.

According to the prime minister, the European integration involves massive investments in infrastructure, education and the economy, as well as active citizens’ involvement.

"This openness on behalf of the European Union means that we Moldovans must also work, build, educate the young generation, do business, export and create jobs," he stressed.

Referring to people’s support, Dorin Recean noted that, at last year's pro-European referendum, the "for" option narrowly won, indicating that many citizens are still not fully convinced of the advantages of the integration.

"That is why, it is essential to mobilize and prove that the European path brings concrete benefits to each of us," the prime minister underlined.

On August 27, during the Independence Day of the Republic of Moldova, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk visited the country. The European leaders conveyed strong messages of solidarity and support for the European integration path. The high-ranking guests urged Moldovan citizens not to miss the unique opportunity to join the EU.
