Moldovan Social-Democratic Platform, eight Liberal Democrat MPs, Liberal MPs form new parliamentary majority
Chisinau, 11 January /MOLDPRES/-The Social-Democratic Platform, Liberal Party (PL) and eight MPs of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) joined their efforts and created a new parliamentary majority. The announcement was made by the leader of the Democratic Party (PDM), Marian Lupu and the leader of the Liberal Party (PL), Mihai Ghimpu, after today’s meeting with President Nicolae Timofti.
Out of the 56 MPs who signed the declaration on the creation of a new parliamentary majority, 34 are members of the Social-Democratic Platform (20 Democrat MPs and 14 former Communist MPs), 13 are Liberal MPs, eight are Liberal-Democrat MPs and one is former Liberal-Democrat MP Petru Stirbate.
Democrat leader Marian Lupu said “out of the total number of 101 MPs, 56 have signed the document on the creation of a new parliamentary majority. More MPs might possibly join us in the next days. We told the president that we had succeeded to form a parliamentary majority and that we will come up with a candidate for the office of prime minister by 13 January,” Lupu said.
Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu said “Moldova needs political stability and a functioning government more than ever. It is time to stop making a fool of ourselves in front of the citizens and start solving the problems. I trust my colleagues who took this responsibility. The current parliamentary majority is what counts most now and I regret that the group of MPs headed by Iurie Leanca is not part of it,” Ghimpu added.
Moreover, seven Liberal-Democrat MPs, including Vladimir Hotineanu, Ion Balan, Stefan Creanga, Nae-Simion Plesca, Gheorghe Mocanu, Mihaela Spatari and Aliona Gonya, made a joint statement today announcing that they will vote for a prime minister nominated by the PDM. The statement was lately confirmed by the Democrat leader as well.
Once the parliamentary majority has been created, a new candidate for the position of prime minister will now be appointed, who according to the Constitution shall ask for the parliament’s vote of confidence on the government’s action programme and new cabinet of ministers within 15 days.
