Head of State invites parties to consultations on appointing new Prime Minister
President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu has invited the parliamentary factions to consultations on nominating a candidate for the position of prime minister. The first consultations will take place today, July 10, and will continue on Saturday, July 11, at the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova.
According to the Presidency, today, July 10, starting at 10:00, representatives of the parliamentary faction “Democracy at Home” are expected. Previously, the leader of the “Democracy at Home” Party, Vasile Costiuc, announced that he would go to the Presidency, “but not for consultations, rather to see whether citizens’ questions are being answered.”
At 11:00, the parliamentary faction “Our Party” is expected for consultations. Its leader, Renato Usatîi, stated that the faction will not participate in the consultations convened by President Maia Sandu. “Our position is clear: the Republic of Moldova no longer needs a PAS 4.0 Government. The country needs either a government of professionals or early parliamentary elections.”
In the second half of the day, representatives of the parliamentary faction “Alternative,” the parliamentary faction “Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova,” and the parliamentary faction “Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova” are called to the Presidency. Members of these parties have stated that they will not participate in the consultations.
On Saturday, July 11, at 10:00, the parliamentary faction of the Party of Action and Solidarity is expected for consultations with Maia Sandu.
The consultations are held in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and aim to designate a candidate for the position of prime minister, for the formation of a new Government.
At the end of last week, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu announced that he was resigning after eight months in office.
According to the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, in the event of the prime minister’s resignation, the entire Government resigns. At the same time, the Supreme Law provides that, in the event of the prime minister’s resignation, the Executive only performs the functions of managing public affairs until the members of a new Government take the oath.
