Speaker: Candidate for prime minister position could be announced by end of week
Speaker Igor Grosu said that by the end of this week a candidate for the post of Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova could be announced. The PAS leader noted that the party is discussing several options and is to make a final decision.
Igor Grosu mentioned that during the meeting of the parliamentary faction, the profiles of several potential candidates were analyzed, including the option of appointing a person from within the party or a candidate from outside the formation.
“On Saturday we had the faction meeting. We discussed the profile, starting from the situation we have in the Republic of Moldova and what the objectives are for the immediate period ahead. Obviously, there were discussions about whether the candidate should be from the party or from outside. We listened to all opinions. There are both advantages and disadvantages,” Igor Grosu said.
According to the speaker, the list of people considered is long enough to identify a candidate who matches the Government’s objectives.
“It is sufficient to put forward a good candidate, with a very clear message, but we have already formulated the objective and mission of the candidate for the position of prime minister,” Grosu specified.
The speaker underlined that the main task of the future prime minister will be the continuation of the European path of the Republic of Moldova and the achievement of the objectives set for the coming period.
“The number one priority is European integration. All the targets we have set for 2028–2030 remain in place. This candidate will have the mission to continue the process of European integration,” he said.
In this context, Igor Grosu mentioned the progress made in relations with the European Union and the need to accelerate the accession process. He also announced that the PAS faction will meet again to continue discussions, and the decision regarding the candidate for prime minister is to be taken by the end of the week.
