PM says Moldova firmly condemns use by Russia of Oreshnik missile in attacks on Ukraine

Moldova strongly condemns Russia’s use of the Oreshnik ballistic missile in its attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu has conveyed a message to this effect.

The official emphasized that Moldova stood in solidarity with Ukraine and supported a just and lasting peace.

“We strongly condemn Russia’s use of the Oreshnik ballistic missile in its brutal attacks carried out last night against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, leaving residents of Kyiv, Lviv, and Kryvyi Rih without electricity or water. Moldova stands in solidarity with Ukraine and with a just peace,” Alexandru Munteanu wrote on the X platform.

During the night from January 8 to 9, the Russian army launched 36 missiles and 242 drones against Ukraine, the Ukrainian Air Force said today. The massive attack also included a hypersonic Oreshnik missile, which was launched at the city of Lviv, in western Ukraine near the Polish border, marking the second time Russia has resorted to this type of missile in the war against Ukraine.

Russia’s overnight bombardments killed at least four people in Kyiv and left dozens injured.

The Oreshnik missile, capable of striking targets thousands of kilometers away with nuclear warheads, was first used with a conventional payload in November 2024 against the city of Dnipro, in central-eastern Ukraine.
