Presidency counters Kremlin propaganda's false claims about Moldovan head of state
President Maia Sandu is known for her modest lifestyle and integrity, and the information released to the public suggesting that the head of state wears "outfits worth tens of thousands of euros" is a "ridiculous lie", says the Moldovan Presidency's spokesperson, Igor Zaharov.
"A big fake about President Maia Sandu's outfits - as if they cost tens of thousands of euros - has been circulating for several days. Seriously? Is that all they could concoct? This is a ridiculous lie, born out of a lack of ideas and, probably, increased desperation after The Insider Russia's investigation exposed Kremlin propaganda networks," says Igor Zaharov.
The Presidency's spokesperson emphasized that thousands of citizens had seen how Maia Sandu travels alongside people, in the same conditions as any passenger, and shops at the same stores as everyone else. Zaharov noted that Maia Sandu wore outfits made in Moldova.
"In the same vein, 4 out of the 5 outfits presented in the 'brands' collage are made in Moldova. Yes, 80 per cent of the wardrobe of President of Moldova consists of local clothes, created here, at home," Zaharov stressed.
At the same time, the Presidency's spokesperson claims that such false information is released to the public, in order to divide society and target the President.
"The Kremlin and its players from our country no longer know what to invent to hit Maia Sandu, remove us from the European path and sow discord among people. Their goal is division. But we won't fall into the trap. In 2024, we gave them a clear answer - and in 2025, we will do it again. Because, unlike them, we believe in truth, not lies," concluded Zaharov.
