President Maia Sandu announced today that next week she will begin consultations with the parliamentary factions to nominate a candidate for the position of prime minister, after Alexandru Munteanu announced his resignation today. The head of state emphasized that Alexandru Munteanu remains interim prime minister.
This morning, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu announced that he is leaving office, after eight months in office. According to the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, in the event of the prime minister’s resignation, the entire Government resigns. At the same time, the supreme law stipulates that in the event of the prime minister’s resignation, the Executive shall only perform the functions of managing public affairs until the members of a new Government are sworn in.
At the same time, under the legal provisions, the President of the Republic of Moldova is to launch consultations with the parliamentary factions for the nomination of a new candidate for the position of prime minister.
