VIDEO // Romania's National Day. Speaker: We are blessed to have brother across Prut

"I congratulate all Romanians around the world on Romania's National Day! It is our common celebration, an opportunity to remember the history and culture that unite us, keep us together, and protect us." Speaker Igor Grosu made the statement on Romania's National Day.

The official highlighted the respect and gratitude of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova towards Romania, considered a benchmark in development and support offered in the European path of our country.

"Moldovans love Romania; they look towards it with respect, gratitude, and thanks. We are blessed to have a brother, just across the Prut, who helps and guides us whenever we need," the official emphasized.

Grosu stressed the importance of strengthening relations through joint projects and cooperation initiatives.

"Let us continue to build bridges, schools, kindergartens, and links. Let us preserve our shared history and values," he added.

The message ended with the traditional wishes addressed to all Romanians.

December 1st was proclaimed as Romania's National Day in 1990, being marked for the first time in the same year in Alba Iulia. Since then, every year, both in Bucharest and in most cities across the country, military parades are held and numerous ceremonies including wreath-laying take place.

Romania's National Day is linked to the historical event of December 1, 1918 – the Union of Transylvania, Banat, Crișana, and Maramureș with Romania, proclaimed at Alba Iulia. The event culminates the Romanians' struggle for National Unity and marks the moment of the creation of Greater Romania, continuing the previous unionist actions in Bessarabia (March 27, 1918) and Bukovina (November 15/28, 1918).

Today Romania's National Day is celebrated in Bucharest with a military parade.
