All scenarios investigated, including perspective of discrediting Moldova - interior minister says
The authorities and law enforcement bodies are investigating the hypothesis that the batch of weapons and ammunition detected at Moldova-Romania border could be part of a deliberate action aimed at discrediting the Republic of Moldova. Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin made the statement today.
According to the official, the batch of ammunition entered the territory of the Republic of Moldova in segments, meaning in two components, from the direction of Ukraine.
‘A joint investigation team has been created with Romania, through which information and evidence are exchanged on secure channels. Currently, based on data from the criminal investigation, we can report that this batch of ammunition entered the territory of the Republic of Moldova in segments, meaning in two components, from the direction of Ukraine. Their origin from certain weapon depots is not confirmed. It concerns a transport company that has previously crossed borders, but it is not known what objects were being transported,’ said Daniella Misail-Nichitin.
The minister also clarified that all scenarios are being investigated, ‘including the perspective of discrediting the Republic of Moldova’.
‘The responsible persons, those involved in issuing documents and organizing the export, are in custody. All scenarios are being investigated, including the perspective of discrediting the Republic of Moldova. That's all we can communicate at this moment to not jeopardize the progress of the investigation,’ emphasized Daniella Misail-Nichitin.
A truck with weaponry was detained last week at the Leușeni–Albița crossing point. The vehicle was registered in the Republic of Moldova and was heading to Israel. The illegal transport was allegedly carried out through smuggling by a hauler who regularly traveled from Ukraine with a freight truck.
The persons responsible for the customs export documents and transport organization, the exporter, the customs broker, and the transporter are currently accused and placed under arrest.
