
Chisinau, 18 May /MOLDPRES/ - The inauguration of the America Days in Moldova took place on the Eugen Doga pedestrian street today. Thus, during three days, a string of events dedicated to over three decades of friendship between the United States and Moldova will be held in open air in Chisinau, Balti and Cahul. The scope of the American assistance since the proclamation of Moldova’s independence till present, as well as American cultural values will be unveiled on these days.
Attending the event were Prime Minister Dorin Recean, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma, Ambassador of the United States to Moldova Kent D. Logsdon and other officials.
In his speech, U.S. Ambassador Kent D. Logsdon said, inter alia, that the European integration was a major opportunity for Moldova. ‘’We are here to help you. Please, come closer to our tents and stands, in order to learn more about the work we carry out together, to improve the living of all Moldovans,’’ the American diplomat said.
In the context, Prime Minister Dorin Recean said the America Days were at the third edition. ”We are again with our friends, who take care to promote the authentic democratic values in the entire world. For thank them for this, through this, we feel also as part of the greater world. I want to also address the volunteers from the United States, who have during time lived in Moldova since the proclamation of the Independence so far. I know that some of them remained in Moldova, are quite active, including in the business environment, as well as in the social entrepreneurship environment. I want to thank them. It is beyond doubt that the United States, through the programmes on help and assistance, is present in absolutely any sector of the social, economic and institutional life of Moldova and I want to thank the American nation and the American government for this assistance. I am quite happy that we have this friendship, which should make the world better, more united,’’ the prime minister said.
At the event, more organizations which benefit from American assistance displayed visual materials and products made due to this assistance and answered questions of curious people. Also, more topic-related areas were arranged for the wide public: gastronomic area, where classical American food was served, area of stage, where a music recital was given by American Big Hands Rhythm & Blues Band and the movie, Finch, (2021, directed by Miguel Sapochnik, with Tom Hanks in the leading part) was screened; an area where local and national projects financed by the U.S. government were presented, as well as the America Bus area, where people were able to familiarize with opportunities of studying the English language.
On 19 May, the American Days will continue in Balti and on 20 May – in Cahul.
The diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the United States were established on 18 February 1992.
