The government of Moldova continues to invest in the development of rural communities. In last June, through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development (NFRLD), 156.2 million lei was allocated for the implementation of 151 local projects, part of the second edition of the European Village National Programme.
The programme aims to modernize basic infrastructure in villages, improve residents' quality of life and provide access to quality public services — drinking water, public lighting, cultural spaces, education, roads and green energy, according to the National Office for Regional and Local Development (NORLD).
'In June, the aqueduct in Tescureni village, Ungheni district, was completed: over 280 households, eight public institutions and four economic agents now have drinking water through a new 5.2 km network; public lighting in the villages of Tanatarii Noi and Ursoaia Noua, Causeni district: over 6.7 km of network and 221 LED fixtures, for 552 people and five institutions; renovation of the administrative building in Mandac village, Drochia: energy modernization for five public institutions and over 2,200 citizens; energy efficiency and repairs at the School of Arts in Dorotcaia village, Dubasari district: better conditions for 140 students and teachers; construction of an Educational and Cultural Center in Stauceni town: modern space for thousands of children, students, young people, and educational staff',’’ said NORLD.
The projects address the real needs of the villages and bring concrete benefits to thousands of residents across all regions of the country — whether it is about the access to water, safer roads, thermally insulated buildings, or modern public lighting.
Thus, the balance of the second edition of the programme includes 887 approved projects, 766 contracts already signed, 49 projects completed, 423 in progress, 306 million lei already allocated, total budget: 2.8 billion lei.
The European Village 2 programme represents an important step towards reducing the disparities between cities and villages and reconfirms the government’s commitment to supporting the balanced development of the entire country.
