EUROPE NEAR // Delacău - village in Security Zone revitalized by infrastructure projects and residents returning
The village of Delacău, Anenii Noi district is one of the seven localities in the Security Zone that will benefit from funding within the national program Europe Near, 2025. The project, financially supported by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, aims to modernize road infrastructure—a concrete step towards the reintegration and development of communities on both banks of the Dniester River.
Village's mayor Gheorghe Vasilița says that although Delacău did not receive the maximum amount of 5 million lei requested, the support offered by the Government is welcomed:
"We were not accepted with the 5 million because some data, which have meanwhile been removed from the Government's database, were taken into consideration. However, we are pleased that we were accepted with two million. It is welcome that the Government decided to provide funds to all localities as a form of compensation from the road fund," Vasilița said.
Financing will be directed towards the rehabilitation of the main road in the locality—a crucial route that crosses the village and connects public institutions and economic agents.
The modernization of infrastructure comes at a time when the village seems to be regaining its dynamic. For the past two years, Delacău has experienced a slight social revitalization:"If last year we had over 100 households for sale, this year there are only very few left, but at high prices—up to 50,000 euros. The residents are returning. Many come from Chișinău. We have a beautiful park built under the European Village program, worked on street lighting, and repaired roads. People are coming back, repairing their properties, arranging their yards. Our locality is in slight growth, not decline."
Besides the road project, the local administration has implemented environmental initiatives:
"We have projects with IFAD and the Ministry of Environment—we planted oaks on 31 hectares. We requested another 50 hectares for afforestation. We also have projects for stabilizing slopes, rehabilitating the water network, and renovating the Cultural House."
Delacău also aims at the expansion of regional infrastructure:"The G109 road should reach the crossroads at Șerpeni, there are 8 km left. According to the government's promises, we will be funded in 2026. If this road is also completed, it will completely change the infrastructure and dynamics of the village of Pugăceni and the area."
Europe Near program, 2025 brings a total of 579 local road infrastructure projects, all included in the Single Program Document for 2025–2027. The seven new projects in the Security Zone, including the one in Delacău, reaffirm the government's commitment to the sustainable development of localities bordering the Transnistrian region.
