Judge’s Day established in Moldova

Judge’s Day has been established in Moldova and will be annually marked on July 20. A decision to this effect today was approved by the General Assembly of Judges.

According to the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), this date marks the adoption of Law No. 544/1995 on the Status of the Judge. The initiative was proposed in 2022 and consulted with the courts.

“The purpose of establishing Judge’s Day is to recognize and appreciate the essential role of magistrates in defending the rule of law and guaranteeing fundamental rights and freedoms, as well as in ensuring fair and transparent justice. At the same time, this initiative contributes to strengthening the prestige of the judicial profession and to promoting its core values – independence, integrity and professionalism,” the CSM said.

On this occasion, courts will be able to organize topic-related events, conferences, and activities aimed at highlighting the importance of independent justice and the role of magistrates in the society.

The decision has been previously adopted by CSM’s Plenum and submitted to the General Assembly of Judges for confirmation.
