Judges pronounce first sentence on files of Chance Party of Moldova
Chisinau, 11 November /MOLDPRES/ - The magistrates of the Chisinau Court today pronounced the first conviction on a file on illegal financing of a political party. A man was fined with 45,000 lei and the money (613,500 lei), earlier raised by law-enforcers, was confiscated and transferred to the state budget.
According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA), the criminal file was separated from another file on 16 October 2024.
The defendant recognized that he had systematically facilitated the transport and distribution of sums of money and presents, through intermediaries, to people who were providing services for the Chance Political Party. In March 2024, the defendant, while acting with intention to illegally finance the Chance Party from forbidden sources, delivered to a man a package with 613,500 lei, which was to be redistributed, through intermediaries, to people involved in the party’s activities.
On the same period, the defendant was detained and arrested and in October 2024, he was sent to court. The judging of the cause lasted only three weeks, with the cause considered by a specialized judge.
The sentence is not final and can be appealed at the Chisinau Court of Appeal on a 15-day period.
