Moldova ranks world's sixth on internet speed
Chisinau, 22 October/ MOLDPRES / - Moldova ranks sixth in the world in terms of speed of downloading data, reaching a value of 40.61 Mbps, according to the Netindex study .
Romania ranks ninth, with a speed of 30.40 Mbps, Russia on the 13th position with 24.38 Mbps and Ukraine on the 16th position, with a speed of 11.91 Mbps. Regarding the speed of downloading data, the Communications and Information Technology Ministry announced that the country held the sixth place with an average speed of 48.54 Mbps. In this department, Romania ranks third with 60.01 Mbps, surpassed by the world's leaders Hong Kong and Singapore with speeds of 97.09 Mbps and 83.62 Mbps.
According to Netindex data, the average Internet access speed in Moldova was of 31.4 Mbps and was placed 16th in the rankings on 31 March. To this effect, Moldova rose by ten positions in just seven months.
According to the National Strategy for Information Society Development - Digital Moldova 2020, each settlement with a municipality will be equipped with at least one point of access to optical fiber network by 2020. The end users will be provided the opportunity to connect to broadband networks with speeds of at least 30 Mbps.
