Moldovan academician's bas – relief unveiled in Chisinau
Chisinau, 04 May /MOLDPRES/ – The bas – relief of academician Vasile Anestiadi was unveiled today on the frontispiece of the morphological block of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF) Nicolae Testemitanu on the day when the late scientist would be 90 years old.
The rector of institution, academician Ion Ababii, mentioned in his speech that doctor habilitated in medical sciences, professor, member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, rector of the State Medical Institute in Chisinau for 23 years, then rector life contingency of University, Vasile Anestiadi, was representative of a generation of illustrious physicians, pedagogues and managers with names and deeds of resonance, generation that had gone through war, famine and social injustice.
"Commencing 1946, he associated his destiny with Institute of Medicine, where he evolved on all stages of his career: student, doctoral student, university professor, rector, rector of the Institute and president of Council of Rectors in Moldova. The scientific investigations of scientist Vasile Anestiadi concern fields of pathology, pathobiology and biogerontology. In those fields he developed theory of incipient atherosclerosis, implemented new fundamental notions in genesis of phenomenon, discovered early phases of atherosclerosis. The results of his scientific research were reflected in over 700 publications, including 10 monographs," said Rector of USMF.
At his turn, president of Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM), academician Gheorghe Duca, stated that Vasile Anestiadi was a personality of a high civic and vertical character, an active militant for common cause and ideals of our people. "Having origins from a family of Greeks, he had birth certificate of grandfather, born in Greece, on basis of which he became a citizen of Greece. At age of 27, he holds PhD in medical sciences, at age of 35 – doctor habilitated and at 37 he was elected as a member of ASM," said the president of ASM.
The academician Gheorghe Ghidirim, correspondent member of ASM, Ieremia Zota, university professors Boris Topor, Vladimir Remis and Ilie Taple, also talked about life and activity of the late scientist.
Vasile Anestiadi was born on 04 May 1928 in Sarateni Vechi village, Orhei district, today Telenesti district. For three decades he was head of the Department of Patomorphology, held position of prorector for scientific activity, rector of State Medical Institute in Chisinau. In 1986 – 1991, Vasile Anestiadi was head of Pathology Laboratory and starting 1991 – director of Scientific Pathobiology Centre of ASM.
For academic and scientific merrits, academician Vasile Anestiadi was designated Laureate of the State Prize of the MSSR and decorated with Order of Republic, but also with other important distinctions. Vasile Anestiadi died on 13 November 2014.
The bas – relief was made by his fellow villager, plastic artist Leonid Popescu.
