Moldovan MP sentenced to 12 years in prison for passive corruption

MP Alexandr Nesterovschi has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for passive corruption and acceptance of the financing of a political party on behalf of an organized crime ring. The lawmaker was not present at the today’s court session.

The magistrates of the Chisinau Court took the decision, in the absence of the MP.

More supporters of the lawmaker, including MPs of the Victorie (Victory) Political Bloc, assembled outside the Chisinau Court and protested.

Also today, Russia media wrote that Nesterovschi received the Russian citizenship, ‘’because of the political persecutions in his native country.’’

Alexandr Nesterovschi was prosecuted by law-enforcement bodies, after he had been stripped off immunity in September 2023.
