Moldovan president conveys message on commemoration of 30th anniversary of battles on Varnita-Tighina plateau
Chisinau, 19 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today conveyed a message on the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the battles on the Varnita-Tighina plateau. The battles started on 19 June 1992 and are regarded as the most tragic page of the Transnistria War.
„We remember with gratitude the heroes who died for the defence of the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Moldova and we bow before the veterans who guarded our young state. In this way, we pay homage to all those who fought for our country in the war at Dniester and those who sacrificed themselves for the peaceful future of Moldova,’’ President Maia Sandu said. At the same time, the head of state noted that we are obliged to preserve alive the memory of those fire days, as a guarantee that we will do our utmost to no longer allow bloodshed on this land.
According to the Moldovan president, this is a new oath, especially now, when a new war started just at our borders, making victims, bringing destruction and grief. ‘’We are a peaceful country and we want to live in peace. Only in peace and only together we will be able to edify a prosperous country, a society where people with different opinions can live in good understanding and mutual respect, with confidence in future. We want this for both banks of Dniester – a free and democratic Moldova,’’ President Maia Sandu said in her message.
