Moment of silence in Parliament

MPs observed a moment of silence today in memory of maestro Gheorghe Urschi. Speaker Igor Grosu highlighted the major role of the artist in the history of our nation and urged citizens to honor his memory.

The Speaker emphasized that there is no Moldovan who has not heard of Gheorghe Urschi – the one who loved his land and his nation with great passion.

“On April 13, maestro Gheorghe Urschi, the king of humor and one of the most beloved artists of our nation, left us. An actor, writer, screenwriter, lyricist and a consummate humorist, Gheorghe Urschi left behind dozens of jokes and legendary texts that long ago became part of everyday use. He wrote plays and film scripts, literary texts, lyrics and music. He toured the culture houses across the entire Republic of Moldova, bringing smiles and joy to people, especially when there were very few reasons to be happy. He managed to turn current issues into satire, and satire into a form of art. Thank you, maestro! Let us keep a moment of silence in memory of the one who was and remains Gheorghe Urschi,” said Grosu.

Gheorghe Urschi passed away on April 13 at the age of 78. The maestro was buried on April 15, which was declared a national day of mourning by decree of President Maia Sandu.
