Six employees of Chisinau's Botanica Police Inspectorate detained in aggravated passive, active corruption cases
A section chief and five employees of Chisinau’s Botanica Police Inspectorate (IP Botanica) have been detained in morel cases of passive and active corruption committed under aggravated circumstances. More than 30 searches were carried out in this case at multiple locations of the Chisinau municipality, including in the offices of more employees of the inspectorate.
The actions took place last night and were coordinated by the National Anticorruption Center (CNA), the Cahul District Prosecutor’s Office and the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor’s Office, with support from the Personnel Inspection Directorate of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP).
According to the CNA, the criminal investigation actions targeted acts of systematically demanding and receiving financial means, in amounts ranging between 3,000 and 10,000 US dollars, both in cash and in virtual currency. The money was provided by individuals involved in the use and illicit trafficking of drugs.
Following the searches, documents important to the criminal cases managed by the CNA were discovered, as well as prohibited items, which were submitted for expert examination.
At present, criminal investigation actions are continuing, in order to identify all circumstances and people involved. The management of IP Botanica and the employees targeted in the case have been suspended from their positions for the duration of the investigation.
