More institutions from Moldovan capital connect to system of monitoring energy consumption
Chisinau, 25 July /MOLDPRES/ - Eight schools, four kindergartens, three administrative buildings, one hospital and one theatre from Chisinau have connected to EMIS – an information system of monitoring the consumption of electric energy, thermal energy, natural gas, hot and cold water. This was possible due to a support provided by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Moldova, within its project, Moldova Sustainable Green Cities, financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), through the Green City Lab Moldova.
The EMIS platform allows stocking monthly data on consumption and comparing energy indexes for different periods of the day, month or year. Depending on the data registered, the institutions’ administration can notice when the consumption of resources was made inefficiently and undertake measures. For this, over 80 smart meters were set in those 17 public buildings. The data on the resources used are automatically submitted on the EMIS web platform, which allows the monitoring the consumption at distance and in real time. At the same time, alerts are generated when the energy or water consumption sharply increases.
EMIS was developed and launched by UNDP in Croatia in 2006, where it was replicated in more than 13,000 public buildings. Subsequently, the EMIS model was adapted in other countries as well.
„If used correctly, this system can generate savings from 5 to 15 per cent of the resources’ consumption. The monitoring of data in the energy and water consumption can help the managers of public institutions undertake measures of optimizing the energy management and as a result, saving financial resources,’’ the UNDP Moldova project manager, Alexandru Rotaru, said.
