HealthTech Hub will be set up in Moldova - a national platform dedicated to innovation and internationalization in the health sector. A memorandum to this effect was signed today by authorities in the health, education and digitization.

HealthTech Hub is a strategic initiative aimed at supporting digitization and modernization of Moldova's healthcare system by promoting interdisciplinary research, implementing advanced technologies and supporting healthcare startups.

The project is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Research, Ukraine-Moldova American Enterprise Fund (UMAEF) and Development Foundation of Moldova.

The Rector of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemițanu,” Professor Emil Ceban noted that the healthcare sector is currently rapidly evolving with the inclusion of automated systems.

“Today, artificial intelligence is at the forefront everywhere in the world. Therefore, at the university, in addition to the classic medicine we have always known, it is necessary to make a step towards new technologies. This hub will be something innovative for the health system and young students, as it will combine research with innovations, medicine, business and creativity,” Ceban said.

Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Doina Nistor appreciated the important project for the health and modern technologies sectors.

“We are glad to be able to adapt modern technologies in the medical field in the Republic of Moldova. We have excellent medical competencies that are recognized not only by our citizens but also by citizens of the European Union, as we have a developing medical tourism sector which has tripled in volume in the past few years. I believe this opens a door for economic development. Additionally, we have an IT industry that is growing very quickly. Over 700 million euros is the turnover in the IT sector in the Republic of Moldova. This is one of the largest industries and we are pleased to bring the medical field alongside technology, thus enabling the creation of new areas of development,” Nistor said.

HealthTech Hub will function as a regional catalyst for digital medical technologies, artificial intelligence and smart medical devices. One of the main objectives is to attract investment and integrate the Republic of Moldova into global innovation networks in the health sector.
