Daniel Vodă: For Moldova, ceasefire in Middle East creates useful window of opportunity
For the Republic of Moldova, the two-week ceasefire between the USA and Iran and the conditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz create a useful window of opportunity: lower pressure on fuel, transport and logistical costs. This is the opinion of Daniel Vodă, associate expert in foreign policy and strategic communication at the Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE).
The expert emphasized that the decision to accept the ceasefire brought a quick reaction on international markets and a significant drop in oil prices.
“The two-week ceasefire between the USA and Iran and the conditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz have brought a quick reaction on international markets and a significant decrease in the oil price. For the Republic of Moldova, this development creates a useful window of opportunity: lower pressure on fuel, transport, and logistical costs,” the expert said.
According to him, in the context of these developments, “it is time for the authorities to closely monitor the formation of stocks and prices, to mobilize the institutions with control competencies, and to ensure that the price cuts are correctly passed on to the economy.”
Daniel Vodă highlighted the need to harness this decision for the benefit of farmers, who depend directly on fuel in the middle of the agricultural season.
“For farmers, who depend directly on fuel in the middle of the agricultural season, any adjustment matters and must be capitalized on. This issue must be removed from the political register and treated as one of economic and social interest, with a direct impact on people and competitiveness,” Daniel Vodă concluded.
US President Donald Trump announced today that he agreed on a two-week ceasefire with Iran, shortly before the deadline expired. Following this announcement, global oil prices fell sharply, and stock markets rose.
